Naja, wer denn nicht? Ich muss Ihnen aber leider mitteilen, dass der Begriff \u201cTo-Do\u201d im Englischen etwas vollkommen anderes bedeutet. Im folgenden Beispiel versuche ich, den eigentlichen Sinn f\u00fcr Sie zu entlarven:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My mom and dad made a huge <strong><em>to-do<\/em><\/strong> about the dinner party they had planned last Friday. To their chagrin, half of the people they invited cancelled at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ein <em>to-do<\/em> ist im Englischen also ein <strong>Getue <\/strong>oder <strong>Tamtam <\/strong>oder <strong>Heckmeck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Was ist aber mit Ihrer To-Do-Liste? Sie haben Recht. We do indeed use the term to-do list in the same way we would in German. Aber wenn wir die einzelnen To-Dos erw\u00e4hnen wollen, sieht es eher so aus:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stanley: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have so many <strong>things<\/strong> <strong>to do <\/strong>today.<\/p>\n<p>Donna: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oh, what all do you <strong>have<\/strong> <strong>to do<\/strong>? What\u2019s on the docket for today?<\/p>\n<p>Stanley: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let me have a look at my <strong>to-do list<\/strong>. Well, I <strong>have<\/strong> <strong>to do <\/strong>a bunch of things at \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 work. There\u2019s that big afternoon conference call with Paris and then I\u2019ve got to head out for a meeting in the suburbs. Then after work I have to go to the grocery store, the gym and finish that report for the sales meeting tomorrow morning. Yikes!<\/p>\n<p>Donna:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You do have <strong>a lot to do<\/strong>, don\u2019t you?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wir reden also von \u201c<em>things to do<\/em>\u201d, <em>\u201cto-do lists\u201d <\/em>oder Sachen, die wir <em>\u201chave to do\u201d<\/em>\u2014also <em>\u201cto do\u201d <\/em>als Infinitiv nach einem Modalverb\u2014aber nicht von \u201cTo-Dos\u201d als Substantiv wie wir das im Deutschen tun.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Das ist nur ein Beispiel f\u00fcr die vielen \u00dcbersetzungsschwierigkeiten im Sprachpaar Deutsch\/Englisch. Deutsch ist eben eine sehr substantivlastige Sprache (To-Dos), w\u00e4hrend das Englische eine sehr verblastige ist (things I have to do).
